Chadong, a place located at the junction of Hunan Province, Guizhou Province and Chongqing Municipality, was renamed Biancheng Chadong since the novel “Border Town” (meaning “Biancheng” in Chinese) written by Shen Congwen was based on this place. Being in Chadong is like being in the world of “Border Town”.
After taking a boat from a fellow villager to sway around on the river, you have already wandered Hunan, Guizhou, and Chongqing. At the entrance of the ancient ferry, the wooden boats ferry people back and forth between Hunan and Chongqing, rubbing against the steel cables and making a creaking sound.
There are the spicy rice tofu, sweet ice porridge, and the catfish with the flavors of three areas for you. Your will surely be overwhelmed by the sour taste of Guizhou, the hemp taste of Chongqing, and the spicy taste of Hunan.
In June 2021, Biancheng Chadong began construction to become a characteristic town, implementing projects such as improving the exterior facade of houses in the old urban area of Biancheng, renovating the calligraphy park, upgrading the riverside streets, and beautifying and brightening Biancheng, with the goal of making the ancient town more visually appealing.
At the same time, Huayuan County also expanded the space and content of the core scenic area of Chadong, integrating the development of rural tourism in the ancient Molao Miao Village along the Youshui River in the town, red tourism in the Chayuanping Old Red Army Memorial Park, and experience tourism in the tea gardens shrouded by clouds and mist in the high mountains of Nantai Village.
